Are you moving out of your current residence and have too much “stuff” to take with you? You should consider donating your unwanted items to UC’s Re-Use Market! If you see any donated items you like, you can take them home with you!
Every year around move out, UC Sustainability hosts a Waste Diversion Program so that students moving out of their residence halls or off-campus housing can donate their unwanted items to a charitable organization. This year, UC Sustainability is partnering with Goodwill alongside UC Housing and Resident Education and Development. Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries accepts donated items and sells them at an affordable price while employing veterans and those with disabilities. As part of their efforts, they recycle more than 50 million pounds of donated products every year that would otherwise be thrown away. UC is excited to be working with them to make a difference in the community!
The Re-Use Market will be located on Calhoun St. near the old YMCA where there will be large shipping containers where you can donate items and take any items home with you that you might find useful! This Re-Use Market is a really great way for students to trade items with one another to divert products from becoming unused waste. These containers will be manned by UC Sustainability’s student advocates from 9 am to 6 pm from April 26th to April 29th and on April 30th from 9 am to 4 pm! Some ideas of items to donate include clothes, furniture, bikes, electronics, books, accessories, and more. Check out the attached flyer for even more ideas!
In addition to the Re-Use Market on Calhoun St., Goodwill will be providing donation containers that will be stationed at nine residence halls on campus from Friday, April 16th to Wednesday, May 5th. These containers are for donations only, so please don’t take any items with you. This is a great way to give a home to any items you do not need anymore and would otherwise end up in a landfill. These items could be very useful to someone else!
